Plaza de Armas (Cusco), UNESCO heritage site in Peru
The Plaza de Armas in Cusco, sometimes known as the 'Square of the warrior', is a popular tourist destination filled with colonial structures and historical remnants.
Once the historic capital of the Inca Empire, it witnessed many important events, including Francisco Pizarro's proclamation of conquest of Cusco.
The square is frequently used for cultural activities, including the colorful annual celebration of Inti Raymi, recreating the Inca Festival of the Sun.
Plaza de Armas is located in the central part of Cusco, easily accessible by local transportation.
Despite multiple earthquakes that led to reconstructions, several original Incan walls still exist in buildings around the plaza.
