Mariscal Sucre International Airport, International airport in Tababela, Ecuador.
Mariscal Sucre International Airport is an international airport in Tababela within the Quito Metro area of Ecuador, handling regional and intercontinental flights. The facility includes a passenger terminal with multiple check-in counters, waiting areas, and amenities for arriving and departing passengers.
The facility opened in February 2013, replacing the previous airport that had served Quito for more than five decades. The move allowed larger aircraft to land and expanded international connections for the Ecuadorian capital.
The terminal takes its name from a Venezuelan military commander who helped secure Ecuadorian independence during the 19th century. Travelers passing through today experience a modern gateway connecting South American destinations across the Andes region.
The airport sits around 25 km (16 miles) east of central Quito in Tababela. Travelers can use taxis, buses, or shuttle services to reach the city center, with the journey typically taking between 45 minutes and an hour.
The runway measures 4100 meters (around 13450 feet) and ranks among the longest in South America. The airport also operates its own water treatment plant for daily operations.
