Quito Metro

The Metropolitan District of Quito spans across 32 urban parishes and 33 rural parishes, distributed among nine administrative zones at 2839 meters elevation.

Following its establishment on December 6, 1534, Quito developed from a Spanish colonial settlement into Ecuador's capital and second most populated administrative division.

The district preserves numerous pre-Columbian and colonial structures, leading UNESCO to declare its historical center as the first World Heritage Site in 1978.

The district operates an extensive public transportation network, including the 22-kilometer metro line connecting the northern and southern regions of the city.

Located near the equator at high altitude, the district experiences consistent 12-hour days and maintains spring-like temperatures throughout the year.
