Conocoto, Rural parish in Quito Metropolitan District, Ecuador.
Located at 2,537 meters above sea level, Conocoto encompasses 156 neighborhoods within the southeastern section of Quito Canton in Pichincha Province.
The territory of Conocoto was first inhabited by the Cara people between 550 CE and 1140 CE, followed by the Panzaleo culture before Inca dominion.
The name Conocoto derives from Quichua words 'Cunug' and 'Cutu', translating to 'warm hill' in reference to the local geography.
The parish maintains numerous small businesses including hardware stores, bakeries, and furniture workshops, along with supermarket franchises serving local residents.
The San Pedro Basilica, constructed in 1922 under German architect Pedro Bruning's direction, stands as a central architectural landmark in the parish.
