Conocoto

Conocoto is a parish in the southeastern section of Quito Canton, located at about 2,500 meters elevation in Pichincha Province. The area contains numerous neighborhoods with houses, shops, bakeries, hardware stores, and furniture workshops that serve the everyday needs of residents.

The territory was first inhabited by the Cara people, then the Panzaleo culture flourished before Inca rule arrived in the region. Each group left marks on the land that shaped what the place became.

The name comes from Quechua words referring to the region's warm character. This indigenous connection remains visible in how locals speak about their surroundings and in the identity of the parish.

The area is best explored on foot or with local transport since it consists of many neighborhoods spread across the terrain. Small shops and services are distributed throughout, so visitors can find everyday items without difficulty.

A basilica built in the 1920s by a German architect stands as a notable building in the parish. This church draws attention and shows how outside influences shaped local landmarks over time.
