Alberto Mena Caamaño Museum, Historical museum in Central District, Quito, Ecuador.
The Alberto Mena Caamaño Museum displays permanent collections and rotating exhibitions within the former Royal Barracks building adjacent to Palacio de Carondelet.
The museum opened in 1959 following a donation of 600 items from aristocrat Alberto Mena Caamaño, including paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and weapons.
The museum houses wax figures crafted by Francisco Barbieri depicting the events of August 2, 1810, when royalist troops killed 200 Quito citizens.
Visitors can explore the museum through self-guided walking tours available for download on mobile applications, with four temporary exhibition halls and an auditorium.
The permanent exhibition titled 'From Quito to Ecuador 1736-1830' contains 5,819 pieces that showcase the transformation of the region during colonial times.
