Longchamps is located approximately 29 kilometers south of Buenos Aires, covering an area of about 14.22 square kilometers with an average elevation of 25 meters above sea level within the Greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area.
Officially founded on August 10, 1910, with the opening of its railway station, the city was named after the French racecourse that inspired the development of the area and the creation of the local horse racing club.
The locality was the site of the first flight in South America on February 6, 1910, performed by Henri Brégi in his Voisin aircraft, marking a historic milestone in regional aviation that is still commemorated today.
