Ofrenda floral a Sarmiento

The Ofrenda floral a Sarmiento is a marble relief located in a park in Palermo, depicting a seated figure of Sarmiento being presented with flowers by children. The sculpture forms a focal point at the terminus of a major pathway through the green space.

A French artist created the work in the early 1900s, and it was formally unveiled in the city several decades later. The memorial later underwent comprehensive restoration in which damaged sections were rebuilt.

The memorial shows Sarmiento as a figure of public respect, honored by children offering flowers. This depiction reflects how his contributions to education remain valued in Argentine society today.

The sculpture is positioned at the end of a main pathway and is protected by metal railings to prevent damage. Visitors can find it easily accessible while walking through the park.

The marble work weighed roughly 18 tons when erected and later required a complete restoration in which a sculptor rebuilt the figure's head. This extensive conservation work demonstrates the effort invested in preserving the memorial.
