Las Toninas, Coastal village in La Costa Partido, Argentina
Las Toninas is a coastal village on Argentina's Atlantic shore featuring fine sandy beaches and natural dune formations stretching for several kilometers. The settlement follows a numbered street grid with even-numbered roads running parallel to the waterfront and Street 7 connecting to nearby Santa Teresita.
The village originated in 1883 when a British captain established Estancia Los Ingleses following a shipwreck near the present location. This early event laid the foundation for the settlement's later growth along the shore.
The beach community here gathers for fishing traditions and local sports competitions during summer months, creating a social rhythm tied to the sea. These activities shape how residents and visitors share time in the village.
The numbered street layout makes the village easy to navigate on foot, with even-numbered roads providing natural orientation toward the waterfront. Best visiting time is from December through March when beach conditions are most pleasant and local summer activities peak.
The village serves as a major hub for international telecommunications, hosting multiple submarine fiber optic cable stations. This hidden technical role connects this small seaside town to global data networks.
