La Viña Dam

La Viña Dam is a hydroelectric installation in Córdoba Province built across Los Sauces River. The structure curves along the valley floor and holds back water to power generation equipment downstream.

Construction began in 1938 and was completed in 1944. This project represented an important step forward for Argentine infrastructure at the time.

The dam's location near Nono connects it to the heritage of Comechingones indigenous people who inhabited the Traslasierra Valley region.

The site is best viewed during daylight hours from multiple vantage points around the area. The location can be windy, particularly during certain seasons, so dress accordingly for outdoor exploration.

The arch design allows water to be held at a significant elevation, maximizing the natural pressure needed for power generation. This curved approach distributes forces efficiently across the landscape without requiring massive earthen barriers.
