Reserva provincial La Loca, Nature reserve in Santa Fe Province, Argentina.
Reserva provincial La Loca is a protected area in Santa Fe Province that encompasses Chaco forests, wetlands, and transition zones where different ecological regions meet. The reserve contains dense woodland areas, open water zones, and grassland transitions that create a diverse landscape for wildlife.
The land was once controlled by the timber company La Forestal, which extracted resources across northern Santa Fe from the late 19th century into the mid-20th century. The creation of the reserve marked the end of that industrial use and the beginning of ecosystem protection in the region.
The reserve serves as an educational center where schools and organizations conduct environmental awareness programs focused on local ecosystem preservation.
Access from Colmena town heads west via Provincial Route 83, or alternatively from Fortín Olmos toward the northeast. Visitors should prepare for unpaved paths and choose to visit outside rainy seasons when roads are easier to navigate.
Over 150 bird species inhabit the area, making it an important destination for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. This concentration allows visitors to observe forest birds, wetland waterfowl, and grassland species all within one location.
