São José dos Pinhais

São José dos Pinhais is a large municipality in the metropolitan area of Curitiba, located in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná. The city covers a wide area where forested hills and green valleys alternate with residential neighborhoods and industrial zones.

The settlement received village status in the mid-19th century and gained municipal recognition several decades later. Industrial development arrived in the 20th century, transforming what had been primarily farmland into a manufacturing center.

The municipality maintains strong automotive manufacturing traditions with facilities from Volkswagen, Audi, Nissan, and Renault establishing major production centers in the region.

The Afonso Pena International Airport lies within the municipal boundaries and offers flights to many Brazilian cities as well as some international destinations. The city spreads over a wide area, so having your own vehicle makes it easier to move between different neighborhoods.

Part of the municipal territory falls within protected reserves created to preserve Atlantic forest vegetation. Rural areas continue to produce fruits and vegetables that supply markets across the region.
