Atlantic Forest South-East Reserves, Nature reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site in São Paulo and Paraná, Brazil.
The Atlantic Forest South-East Reserves contain 25 protected areas spanning 470,000 hectares with coastal islands, mountains, wetlands, and dense forest regions.
Following severe deforestation in the 20th century, these reserves received UNESCO World Heritage designation in 1999 to protect remaining Atlantic Forest sections.
Indigenous Guarani communities maintain traditional practices within the core zone, contributing to forest preservation through sustainable resource management.
Visitors can access designated areas through Intervales State Park, which provides accommodation facilities and guided tours from São Paulo.
The reserves contain 450 tree species per hectare and shelter rare animals including the woolly spider monkey, southern muriqui, and four tamarin species.
