Brazil-Portugal Building, Historic building in downtown Bauru, Brazil
The Brazil-Portugal Building is a twelve-story residential structure in downtown Bauru containing 48 apartments spread evenly across its floors. Each unit features high ceilings and distinct social areas, representing a shift from horizontal to vertical living arrangements in the city.
The structure was built in 1964 based on designs by Portuguese architect Fernando Ferreira de Pinho. It marked the start of vertical residential expansion in central Bauru and influenced how the city would develop thereafter.
The name reflects a symbolic bond between two nations and was chosen by Banco Hipotecário Lar Brasileiro after winning an architectural competition. The facade displays the modernist style that shaped Brazilian cities in the 1960s and remains visible throughout downtown today.
The building sits at the corner of Avenida Nações Unidas and Avenida Rodrigues Alves in the heart of downtown. Its central location makes it easy to reach and puts you near other shops and services in the area.
The building received heritage protection status from CODEPAC-Bauru in 2002, placing it among just three protected structures in a city with many landmarks. This recognition honors its importance in shaping modern residential architecture in the area.
