Xixová-Japuí State Park

Xixová-Japuí State Park is a protected nature reserve in São Vicente covering both land and marine zones along the coastal region. The area contains forested hills, sandy beaches, rocky outcrops, and diverse vegetation types typical of subtropical Brazil.

European settlement in the region began around 1510, with São Vicente becoming Brazil's first official town in 1532. The area later underwent economic shifts before being designated as a protected reserve.

A former tannery from 1914 within the park produced leather of exceptional quality, marking an important period in the industrial development of São Vicente.

Visitors should arrange visits in advance since the area has limited access points and requires prior arrangement. Exploring during daytime is recommended for better visibility of trails and coastal features.

The region supports a remarkable array of wildlife and plants, including hundreds of vertebrate species and various botanical forms. This biological richness makes the area an important location for ecological observation.
