Fábrica de Arte Marcos Amaro, Arts centre in Itu, Brazil
Fábrica de Arte Marcos Amaro is an arts centre located on a former textile mill property with exhibition spaces and an outdoor sculpture garden. The building hosts various artistic works and is used for rotating exhibitions.
The building was originally the São Pedro Spinning and Weaving Company operating as a textile factory from 1912 to 1990. The structure with Manchester-style industrial architecture was later transformed into an arts space.
The space is named after its founder and showcases works by Brazilian artists such as Adriana Varejão and Cildo Meireles displayed throughout the galleries. Visitors encounter contemporary art from the region as they move through the rooms.
The centre is located about two hours from São Paulo and offers free educational programs along with guided tours. The grounds are accessible throughout the year with rotating exhibitions on display.
The sculpture garden features large-scale works constructed from aircraft parts. This connection to aviation comes from the founder's family background in the airline business.
