Itumbiara Dam, Hydroelectric power station on Paranaíba River in Goiás, Brazil
The Itumbiara Dam extends across the Paranaíba River with a height of 106 meters and a length of 7,000 meters, creating a reservoir of 778 square kilometers.
Construction of this major infrastructure project started in November 1974, with Brazilian firms handling 97% of the work and using 90% locally sourced materials.
The dam development led to the growth of surrounding communities, transforming the region into an industrial and energy production center in central Brazil.
Six Francis turbines generate 2,082 megawatts of power, making it the sixth largest hydroelectric facility in Brazil and the largest in the Eletrobrás Furnas system.
The dam's operating system transitioned to remote control in 1997, with a central facility in Corumba managing the entire power generation process.
