Caldas Novas, Thermal resort municipality in Goiás, Brazil.
Caldas Novas is a town in central Goiás known for its hot springs, spreading across hilly savanna landscape. The area contains several water parks, hotels, and public baths, all fed by the geothermal reservoir below.
Portuguese explorers came across the thermal springs in the late 18th century and established a small settlement. The town grew into a spa destination during the 20th century as entrepreneurs began building facilities around the natural sources.
The municipality maintains 86 thermal wells that supply numerous water parks and resorts, forming the foundation of local tourism activities.
Most thermal baths and parks sit in the town center or near the main road, reachable on foot or by taxi. Weekends and holiday periods draw many visitors from across the country, so facilities tend to be fuller then.
The geothermal system sits on an ancient fracture in the crust, bringing magma closer to the surface. This allows water from some sources to reach temperatures near boiling before entering the pools.
