Juscelino Kubitschek bridge, Road bridge in Brasilia, Brazil

The Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge spans 1200 meters across Lake Paranoa with three 240-meter sections supported by asymmetrical steel arches reaching 62 meters high.

The Brazilian Federal District government approved the bridge construction in 1991, and the structure opened to traffic in December 2002 at a cost of 57 million dollars.

The bridge design by architect Alexandre Chan and engineer Mario Vila Verde reflects the monumental scale and modern architecture principles of the Brazilian capital.

The structure features six traffic lanes divided into two directions, plus dedicated paths for pedestrians and cyclists along its 24-meter width.

Three diagonal crossing arches support the bridge deck through steel cables in a radial pattern, creating a design that earned the 2003 Abcem Award.
