Instituto Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Educational institution in Ilhéus, Brazil
Instituto Nossa Senhora da Piedade is an educational facility in Ilhéus featuring eight main buildings with Gothic and eclectic architectural styles. The complex includes a gymnasium, a semi-olympic swimming pool, and operates both private and public school sections.
The facility was designed in 1916 by French architect Monsieur Saffray and began operations with 17 students serving children of cocoa plantation owners. The chapel was consecrated in 1929, marking the institution's establishment as an educational center for local elites.
The institute houses a museum with sacred images, including restored statues of Joan of Arc and Saint Therese of Lisieux from the early 20th century. These works reflect the spiritual importance of the place for the community.
The grounds are widely structured with various facilities that make visiting convenient, from sports areas to school sections. Visitors should plan enough time to explore the different buildings and spaces across the complex.
The chapel contains fourteen pieces of the Stations of the Cross and a central Pietà altar acquired during its construction period. This religious art collection makes the chapel a special place for visitors interested in sacred artwork.
