Pesqueira

Pesqueira is a municipality in Pernambuco situated at about 732 meters elevation, spanning roughly 980 square kilometers of land. It sits within a network of neighboring municipalities that shape the territorial organization of the region.

The municipality was founded in 1762 as Cimbres and received its current name in 1836. This change of identity reflected a major reorganization of Pernambuco's territorial divisions.

The region preserves traces of indigenous languages such as Tchili and Walêcoxô through historical records. These linguistic remnants show how the native communities left their mark on the land.

The BR-232 highway links the municipality to Recife, the state capital, about 214 kilometers away. This main route makes travel through the region and access to larger centers much easier.

Three major rivers - Ipanema, Ipojuca, and Una - run through the territory and form a distinctive water network. This system shapes the local landscape and sustains agricultural activity across the land.
