Goiana

Goiana is a municipality in the Zona da Mata region of Pernambuco, located roughly 65 kilometers north of Recife. The town sits between the Tracunhaém and Capibaribe river systems, which define its geography.

The region was originally home to the indigenous Caetés and Potiguaras peoples before explorer Diogo Dias established a fortified Portuguese settlement in 1568. This founding marked the beginning of European colonization in the area.
