Caicó

Located at 186 meters above sea level, Caicó extends between the Seridó and Barra Nova rivers in northeastern Brazil's semi-arid region.

The settlement began in 1735 as Vila Nova do Príncipe when Portuguese immigrants from northern Portugal and the Azores established the first permanent residences.

The municipality maintains strong Christian traditions, with over ninety percent of the population practicing Catholic or Protestant faiths through regular ceremonies.

The region experiences annual rainfall between February and May, accumulating approximately 700 millimeters of precipitation throughout these months.

With 3,000 hours of sunshine annually and temperatures reaching 38°C, Caicó holds the highest human development index in Northeast Brazil's semi-arid zone.
