Walker Bay Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Western Cape, South Africa
Walker Bay Nature Reserve spans over 1,000 hectares along the southwestern coast, featuring white sandy beaches, limestone outcrops, and diverse marine ecosystems.
The Klipgat Cave within the reserve contains Middle Stone Age and Late Stone Age artifacts, documenting early human settlements in the Western Cape region.
The reserve maintains strict regulations to protect indigenous plant species, including blombos, sour fig, waxberry, and bietou, which form part of the local lowland fynbos.
Visitors can enter through multiple access points at Stanford via Mierkom, De Kelders, and Uilkraalsmond, with entry fees of R60 for adults and R40 for children.
The coastal waters of Walker Bay serve as breeding and calving grounds for Southern Right Whales, making it a prime land-based whale observation location.
