Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden

The garden spans 154 hectares at the base of Hex River Mountain range, featuring 11 hectares of cultivated succulent plants and 143 hectares of natural vegetation.

Founded as a conservation center, this garden developed into the primary research facility for succulent plants of the southern African region.

The garden conducts regular educational programs about indigenous plant species and maintains partnerships with local schools for environmental education initiatives.

The garden opens daily from 7:00 to 18:00, with guided tours available and a nursery operating during business hours for plant purchases.

This location represents the only specialized succulent garden in the Southern Hemisphere, protecting over 300 rare and endangered plant species.
