Bloukrans Bridge, Concrete arch bridge along Garden Route, South Africa
Bloukrans Bridge is a concrete arch bridge along the Garden Route in South Africa. It spans 451 meters across a deep valley and rises 216 meters above the river, while the central arch reaches 272 meters.
The construction was completed in 1983 and represented a step forward in South African engineering. It replaced an older crossing and opened a continuous road link between the provinces.
The structure connects two provinces and has become a landmark for travelers moving along the coast. Many stop to look down into the gorge or prepare for the jump.
The bridge carries National Route 2 and features a platform for commercial bungee jumping operated by Face Adrenalin. Visitors who just want to look can walk out on the footpath to the center and peer down through the railings.
The site holds the record for the highest commercial bridge-based bungee platform in the world at 216 meters above the river. Jumpers reach speeds of around 200 kilometers per hour (about 125 miles per hour) during freefall.
