Monumento aos Mortos da Primeira Guerra Mundial, World War I memorial at Praça dos Trabalhadores, Mozambique.
The monument reaches 14.30 meters in height and features a figure named Pátria at its summit, holding the Portuguese coat of arms with a shield and sword.
Portuguese sculptor Ruy Roque Gameiro and architect António Reis Camelo designed this memorial, which was inaugurated on November 11, 1935 in the presence of local authorities.
The structure includes four sculptural depictions of battles that represent both European and African Portuguese soldiers who participated in World War I military campaigns.
The memorial stands in front of Maputo's central train station, making it easily accessible to visitors exploring the KaMpfumo district of the city.
The monument marked the first visible symbol of the Estado Novo regime in the colony and received a visit from Portuguese President Óscar Carmona in 1939.
