Mukurob, Natural sandstone formation in Hardap Region, Namibia.
The sandstone structure measured 12 meters high and 4.5 meters wide, with a narrow base of 3 meters long and 1.5 meters wide.
After standing for over 50,000 years on the Weissrand Plateau, the formation collapsed unexpectedly on December 7, 1988, coinciding with significant political changes.
The Nama people maintained that their control over the territory would persist as long as the rock formation remained standing in its place.
The fallen structure retains its status as a National Monument of Namibia, designated on June 1, 1955, and continues to attract visitors.
Scientists attribute the collapse to either a rainstorm that weakened the sandstone or seismic activity from the distant Spitak earthquake in Armenia.
