The Rocks is a manor house on Mount Melville overlooking Princess Royal Harbour and contains multiple buildings amid expansive gardens. The property consists of seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms spread across a large landscaped estate.
The house was built in 1882 for William Grills Knight, who later became Albany's mayor and shaped the town's development. Throughout the 20th century it served various purposes, from a convalescent facility to school accommodation.
The house displays federation architecture with Victorian details and jarrah timber flooring throughout its rooms. The design reflects the prosperity of the era when it was built.

During both World Wars the building served as a recovery home for wounded soldiers, offering them shelter in a scenic setting. This wartime role remains part of local memory and storytelling.
