The Rocks, Heritage site in Albany, Australia

The Rocks stands on Mount Melville with views over Princess Royal Harbour and contains multiple heritage buildings across 8,196 square metres of gardens.

Built in 1882 for William Grills Knight, who served as mayor of Albany from 1886 to 1888, the property changed functions multiple times through the decades.

The property reflects the federation filigree architectural style with Victorian elements, including jarrah floorboards throughout its seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

The location now operates as tourist accommodation, offering guided tours and educational programs about the site's role in Albany's development.

During both World Wars, the building served as a convalescent home for wounded servicemen before becoming a girls' hostel for Albany Senior High School students.

Location: City of Albany

GPS coordinates: -35.02414,117.87717
