Royal George Hotel, Albany, Heritage hotel in Albany, Australia
The Royal George Hotel stands as a three-story Victorian Free Classical structure with an asymmetrical facade at the intersection of York and Grey Streets.
Built in 1885 during the Western Australian gold rush, the establishment began as the Railway Hotel before changing its name to Royal George Hotel in 1892.
The first meeting of the Albany Roads Board took place in the hotel's dining room in 1896, marking its role in local governance development.
The building underwent major renovations in 1910, expanding to include 31 bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, and modern amenities across three floors.
The original Cremorne Gardens behind the hotel contained an outdoor cinema and roller skating rink until their demolition in later years.
