National Hotel, Heritage hotel in Fremantle, Australia
The National Hotel is a five-story structure of stone and brick with extended balconies located at the corner of High and Market Streets. A prominent dome crowns the facade and anchors this historic building within the streetscape.
The building began in 1868 as a commercial shop and housed the National Bank in the 1880s. The conversion to a hotel occurred in 1886, marking its long-term function in the city.
The ground floor public bar features daily live music performances, while the first floor contains a lounge bar and restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine.
The site features multiple levels with dining and hospitality areas plus a rooftop bar with city views available from midday onward. Visitors can experience different spaces within this multi-story complex at various times throughout the day.
The building survived multiple fire incidents in 1975 and 2007 before undergoing major restoration work. The restoration was completed in 2013, returning the structure to its historical character and function.
