Robbs Jetty Abattoir, Industrial chimney in City of Cockburn, Australia
Robbs Jetty Abattoir was a meat processing complex near South Fremantle, of which only a 28-meter tall brick chimney remains standing today. The structure occupies the former industrial site and serves as the sole surviving element of the original facility.
The facility opened in 1921 and operated until 1994 as part of Western Australia's government-run meat export industry, processing cattle and sheep. During this period it served as a major hub for regional meat production and distribution.
The site shows how the local community modernized meat production by consolidating operations into one major facility, replacing scattered smaller operations.
The chimney is viewable from ground level and accessible from the outside, allowing visitors to observe the industrial architecture up close. The site requires no special arrangements to visit and can be accessed anytime as it stands on publicly accessible land.
The chimney was built using English bond brickwork, a construction method that provided strength and durability for long-lasting performance. This skilled craftsmanship reveals the quality and care invested in industrial structures of that era.
