Perth Hebrew Congregation, Modern Orthodox synagogue in Menora, Western Australia
Perth Hebrew Congregation is a modern Orthodox synagogue in Menora featuring a purpose-built structure with a main sanctuary, library, mikveh, bookshop, and educational spaces. The facility also houses the Ruth Landau Harp Early Learning center that serves children from 6 weeks to 5 years old.
Founded in 1892, the congregation initially met in a Moorish-style building on Brisbane Street before moving to its current Menora location in the 1970s. This relocation reflected the growing needs of the Jewish community in Western Australia.
The congregation hosts daily prayer services and educational programs that keep Jewish traditions alive in the region. Visitors can experience the active community life and regular gatherings that bring members together.
The building offers multiple facilities in one location, including prayer spaces, a library to browse, and learning areas for children. Visitors should know that the site functions as an active place of worship and visiting times may align with religious events.
The congregation received its first two Torah scrolls as gifts from members of the Montefiore family, marking the beginning of its religious collection. These donations established the foundation for a significant Jewish library that is still maintained today.
