Perth Metropolitan Region, Administrative region in Western Australia, Australia.
The Perth Metropolitan Region stretches from Two Rocks in the north to Singleton in the south, covering about 158 kilometers of Western Australian coastline. The area divides into five subregions: Inner Metro Area, North-eastern, North-western, South-eastern, and South-western Outer Metro Areas.
The region was formally defined through the Planning and Development Act 2005, encompassing 30 local government areas. This boundary setting established the legal foundation for today's regional administration and planning.
The region contains several urban centers like Perth, Fremantle, and Joondalup, each with its own character and distinct neighborhoods shaped by local communities. These different hubs together form the fabric of the area, with each part maintaining its own local identity and way of living.
The area is large and varied, so it helps to plan by subregion based on what you want to see. Some parts are easily accessible while others require more time and preparation, especially if you plan to visit multiple centers.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics combines Perth and Peel as a Greater Capital City Statistical Area with more than two million residents. This statistical grouping reveals how closely the two regions are interconnected economically and demographically.
