Guildford Grammar School Chapel, Church building in Guildford, Western Australia.
Guildford Grammar School Chapel is a stone church building constructed on the school grounds using quarried stone from Donnybrook. The interior features English oak woodwork and a gold-leaf covered altar that serves as the focal point of the worship space.
Construction finished in 1914 with complete funding from English benefactor Cecil Oliverson, who also donated the gold-leaf covered altar. His generosity made it possible to create a high-quality sacred space for the developing school community.
The chapel serves as the spiritual center of the school community and hosts student services alongside personal life events like weddings and baptisms. These gatherings connect generations of people who have attended the school over the decades.
The chapel is located on school grounds at Terrace Road and is accessible for guided tours and religious services. Visitors should check ahead of time whether tours are available, as access depends on school schedules and events.
During World War II, red crosses were painted on the roof to mark it as a hospital location for the US Navy. Parts of these wartime markings remain visible beneath later paint layers, a reminder of the building's emergency role during the conflict.
