Dragon Rocks Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Wheatbelt region, Australia.

Dragon Rocks Nature Reserve is a protected area in the Wheatbelt region covering around 32,000 hectares, encompassing heaths, woodlands, low forests, and mallee vegetation in various formations. The terrain contains multiple distinct habitat types that together support a layered ecosystem.

The reserve gained official protection status in 1979 and was subsequently listed on Australia's Register of the National Estate. This recognition secured the long-term protection of the area's rare plants and animals.

The reserve displays the native plant communities that characterize the Wheatbelt landscape, visible as a patchwork of heaths and woodlands throughout the area. These varied vegetation types shape the visual identity of the region and reflect its natural heritage.

The terrain spreads across 32,000 hectares of remote and undulating land southeast of Perth. Bring plenty of water, carry a map or GPS device, and prepare for changing conditions across the landscape.

The area is home to sixteen plant species found nowhere else, including thirteen eucalyptus types and the rare Lake Varley grevillea. These locally occurring species make this reserve significant for protecting specialized ecosystems.
