Mount Patuha

Mount Patuha is a stratovolcano in West Java with two distinct craters marked by white sulfur deposits. The mountain contains mineral-rich thermal waters that collect in crater lakes, including one with striking color variations.

The volcano formed through two major eruption phases: the first in the 10th century created the western crater, while the second in the 13th century formed an additional crater. These events shaped the mountain's current structure.

Local communities call the mountain Gunung Sepuh, reflecting its deep roots in the region's identity. People here have long recognized this volcano as part of their landscape and living heritage.

Multiple hiking trails connect to the volcano from nearby Bandung, with local guides available at the base to explain the geological features. Start early and bring weather-resistant clothing, as conditions can change rapidly at higher elevations.

The crater lake shifts its color between white and green depending on sulfur levels and weather conditions, creating an ever-changing landscape. This natural phenomenon results from the chemistry of the mineral-rich waters.
