The Great General Suharto Memorial, Memorial and museum in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The Great General Suharto Memorial is a museum on a 3,620-square-metre plot in Kemusuk Lor, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul, about 10 km west of Yogyakarta. A large statue of Suharto by Edhi Sunarso stands in the front yard beside the inauguration stone, and a pendopo holds multimedia displays and a bust. A diorama room mixes traditional and modern elements, opening with a rolling film installation.
The site was established to commemorate Suharto's 32-year rule from 1967 to 1998, a period of major change in Indonesian history. This era brought economic growth programs while also shaping the country's political situation in lasting ways.
The memorial stands on Suharto's own land in Kemusuk Lor, the village of his birth, and was inaugurated on 8 June 2013, his birthday, by his younger brother Probosutedjo and his eldest daughter Siti Hardijanti Rukmana. A large statue of Suharto in the front yard was made by sculptor Edhi Sunarso, with the inauguration stone beside it. In the pendopo, multimedia displays and electronic books on Suharto's struggle sit next to a bust of him.
The museum stands about 10 km west of Yogyakarta city, reached via Jalan Wates at kilometre 10, near the road to Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta, or via Jalan Godean in Sleman. The grounds cover 3,620 square metres, with a statue and inauguration stone in the front yard, a pendopo with multimedia displays, and a diorama hall inside.
The museum houses original military uniforms, medals, and personal correspondence from his military and presidential career. These items provide insight into the everyday life of this important historical figure.
