Pantai Pulang Sawal

Pantai Pulang Sawal is a beach on the southern coast of Gunung Kidul with white sand stretching between towering limestone cliffs and the bright waters of the Indian Ocean. The shoreline features natural rock formations that create smaller, sheltered sections alongside open swimming areas.

The beach was named by local residents as Pulang Sawal, a name rooted in the area's past and the people who lived here. Over time, a nearby restaurant became so well-known that some visitors mistakenly called the beach by a different name, creating confusion that persists today.

The drive here is straightforward on a well-maintained road with parking spaces available near the entrance. Plan to arrive early if you want to explore the rock formations and cliff areas at your own pace, as crowds can build during midday hours.

The natural rock formations create small pools and protected coves that fill with water at certain tide levels, forming temporary habitats for sea creatures. These tidal zones become ideal spots for observing marine life up close without venturing into deeper waters.
