Indramayu, Administrative division in West Java, Indonesia
Indramayu is an administrative division on the northern coast of West Java, extending from the Java Sea to the neighboring territories of Cirebon, Majalengka, and Sumedang. The area divides into 31 districts, and its landscape features rice paddies and orchards growing tropical fruits.
The Dermayu Sultanate emerged in 1478 when Sultan Khalif Aria Wirasamudra broke away from the rule of the Majapahit empire. This sultanate formed the foundation for the current administrative structure of the region.
Three dialects of Javanese shape everyday conversation across this territory: Dermayu in the western districts, Cirebonese in the east, and Tegal-Brebes along the northern coast. This linguistic variety shows how people from different parts of the island have come together here over the centuries.
Temperatures stay between 23 and 32 degrees Celsius (73 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit) throughout the year, while the rainy season runs from November to March. The 31 districts connect through a network of provincial roads, with the coastal route linking the main settlements.
Mangoes and mangosteens grow in large quantities in the orchards across this region, which has been known for cultivating these tropical fruits for generations. Many families make their living from harvesting and selling the fruits at local markets.
