Batakan Beach

Batakan Beach is a coastal stretch in South Kalimantan with light blue waters, fine sand, and green hills backing the shoreline. Pine trees line the shore, and Mount Meratus rises in the distance to complete the natural setting.

The name Batakan comes from two sailors who drifted ashore during a sea voyage and gave their name to the place. The settlement developed from this early arrival and the maritime trade that followed.

Local fishermen conduct maritime ceremonies each July or August to give thanks for the ocean's resources and request safe passage. These celebrations show how deeply the community's life is connected to the sea.

Visitors can rent horse-drawn buggies to explore the coastal area or take motorboat trips to nearby Datu Island. The dry season offers the best conditions for visiting, with stable weather and calmer waters.

The view of Mount Meratus rising in the distance gives the beach a distinctive natural backdrop that few visitors expect. This mountain backdrop creates a quiet atmosphere that draws people seeking a slower pace.
