Hi-Lite Park, Amusement park in Geelong, Australia
Hi-Lite Park was an amusement park in Geelong located at Eastern Beach, positioned at the junction of Bellarine Street and Ritchie Boulevard. The site featured various rides and attractions comparable to Melbourne's Luna Park during its time of operation.
The park opened in 1956 and operated for about three decades before closing in 1985. This closure made way for the Eastern Beach precinct to be redeveloped into a recreation area during the 1990s.
Under the management of first-generation showman Emile Francis Verfurth from Braybrook, the park established itself as a central entertainment venue in Victoria.
Visitors should note that this amusement park no longer operates and the site has been repurposed for other uses. The former park location remains close to central Geelong and can be accessed via Bellarine Street and Ritchie Boulevard.
After the park's closure, the Verfurth family installed a 50-meter-tall Ferris wheel at the same location in 2006. With six-passenger gondolas, it became the largest transportable wheel in the Southern Hemisphere at that time.
