City of Hobsons Bay, Administrative division in Victoria, Australia
The City of Hobsons Bay is an administrative region southwest of Melbourne that encompasses industrial areas, coastal zones, and residential neighborhoods. It combines what were once separate municipalities into a single local government area.
The region was created in 1994 through the merger of several former municipalities including Williamstown and Altona. This reorganization brought together separate local governments into one unified administrative body.
The population of 96,470 residents includes people from diverse backgrounds who speak more than 100 languages and follow 90 different religious practices.
The area connects to Melbourne through seven train stations on the Werribee line and is crossed by several main roads. Infrastructure allows for both public and private transport access from different directions.
The area is home to five creek systems, coastal wetlands, and native grasslands that together make up roughly one quarter of the administrative region. These natural spaces offer visitors a chance to explore local ecosystems.
