Avon Wilderness Park

The Avon Wilderness Park spans across 39,650 hectares of mountain ash and sub-alpine woodlands in the southern part of the Victorian Alps.

The Australian government established this protected area in 1987, designating it as one of three wilderness parks managed by Parks Victoria.

Parks Victoria collaborates with local Aboriginal communities to preserve the natural and cultural elements of this undeveloped landscape.

Visitors require topographic maps for navigation as the park contains no designated walking tracks or vehicle access points.

This IUCN category Ib wilderness area maintains its natural state without any built infrastructure, making it a pure exploration environment.
