St Matthew's Church, Dunedin

St Matthew's Church features bluestone walls with Port Chalmers breccia elements, including massive octagonal piers that separate the aisles from the nave.

The foundation stone was placed on July 11, 1873, and architect William Mason completed the Gothic Revival structure's construction for 4,874 New Zealand pounds.

The church interior contains five lancet stained glass windows in the apsidal chancel, representing biblical narratives that connect worshippers to Anglican traditions.

Located at coordinates -45.88 latitude and 170.498 longitude, the church holds regular Sunday services at 10 AM and accommodates 750 people.

The congregation declined the opportunity to become Dunedin's cathedral church, leading to St Paul's in the Octagon receiving this designation instead.
