St Michael's Church, Waimea West

St Michael's Church is an Anglican church building in Waimea West with Gothic Revival design featuring pointed arches, steep rooflines, and white exterior walls. The structure retains its original architectural features and has been recognized as a Category I Heritage building in New Zealand.

The church was built in 1866 by Thomas Brunner and was the first memorial church in New Zealand. It was constructed to honor Captain Francis H. Blundell, an early settler whose contributions shaped this region.

The site reflects how early European settlers established religious life in this rural area and used the church as a gathering place. People came here not only for services but also to mark important life events and strengthen community bonds.
