Feilding and District Steam Rail Society, Steam railway preservation society in Feilding, New Zealand.
The Feilding and District Steam Rail Society is a railway preservation group operating vintage locomotives and carriages from a depot in the town. Its main working locomotive is a WAB class tank engine that pulls passenger trains on seasonal excursions to various North Island destinations.
The society began operations in the 1990s and acquired its main steam locomotive in early 1997 from a facility elsewhere on the North Island. The depot was expanded with relocated railway infrastructure including a historic turntable and original station building from closed junctions.
Members of the society contribute their expertise to restore locomotives and carriages, preserving New Zealand's railway engineering and transportation legacy.
The group runs train trips to several destinations across the North Island on scheduled dates throughout the year. Check ahead before planning a visit, as operations are seasonal and excursion availability changes depending on the time of year.
The facility incorporates the relocated Palmerston turntable and the original Taonui station building from the North Island Main Trunk railway junction.
