Ironbank, Commercial building on Karangahape Road, Auckland, New Zealand
Ironbank is a commercial building on Karangahape Road in Auckland with five vertical towers clad in steel and painted orange. Six office levels sit above a four-level robotic parking system that stores up to 96 vehicles automatically.
The building opened in 2009 and won the New Zealand Architecture Medal the following year. It became the first structure in the country to achieve the highest Greenstar environmental rating at the time of construction.
The stacked box design of the building lets each company shape its own space while everyone shares a common courtyard in the middle. This layout creates a sense of community within the structure itself.
The building sits on a major city street and is easy to reach by car or public transport. Visitors should note that the parking system below is primarily for tenants of the office spaces above.
The orange-painted steel exterior was a deliberate design choice to make the building stand out in the urban landscape. This distinctive color makes it easy to spot and recognize from different parts of the city.
