Wairere Boulders, Natural formations in Hokianga, New Zealand.

The Wairere Boulders spread across 143 hectares, featuring large basalt rocks with deep solution basins and fluting patterns on their surfaces.

Swiss couple Felix and Rita Schaad developed the site in the 1980s, establishing walking tracks and opening it to visitors in 2000.

The area holds geological significance with its basalt karst formations, documented in scientific studies alongside similar structures in Hawaii.

Visitors can select from multiple walking paths lasting between 40 minutes and three hours, with clear signs guiding them through the boulder field.

The property combines geological exploration with kayaking opportunities, allowing navigation through boulder-lined waterways toward the Hokianga Harbour.
