Cuvier Island Lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse on Cuvier Island, New Zealand
The white cylindrical tower rises 15 meters above the island, featuring a black lantern dome and providing navigation signals across 19 nautical miles.
Built in 1889, this structure marked a milestone in New Zealand maritime infrastructure as the first lighthouse constructed with cast iron materials in the country.
The Māori people know the location as Repanga Island, named after Baron Cuvier by Captain D'Urville during his exploration voyages.
The lighthouse operates through solar-powered LED beacons and battery banks, transmitting white light signals every 15 seconds for maritime guidance.
Three lighthouse keeper families resided in houses near the landing area, using trained carrier pigeons for communication with Auckland between 1899 and 1911.
