Haruru Falls, Waterfall at Waitangi River, Far North District, New Zealand
The Waitangi River forms a five-meter-high waterfall with a width of fifteen meters, creating a rectangular cascade of water near Paihia.
The lagoon downstream of Haruru Falls functioned as New Zealand's first river port, used extensively by early missionaries and Māori traders.
The name Haruru originates from the Māori language, referring to the constant sound produced by the water dropping into the basin below.
Visitors can reach the waterfall through a sealed road to Haruru Falls Road, where a gravel parking area provides space for vehicles.
The waterfall connects to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds through a six-kilometer walking track that follows the northern edge of Waitangi Estuary.
